About Us
Human Beatbox History
Beatboxing originated in the early 1980’s hip-hop culture, where musicians in New York started mimicking the sounds of drum machines (called “beatboxes” at the time) with their voices.
The high cost of drum machines and other musical equipment led to the development of beatboxing as a creative solution, allowing artists to create beats using only their mouths.
Over time, beatboxers developed a wide array of techniques, including kicks, hi hats, snares, clicks, scratches, vocal and non-vocal bass techniques, etc.
It quickly evolved into a standalone instrument and complex art form. The first beatbox world championship was held in Germany in 2005 which sparked a “family-like” community that has since spread worldwide.
We are in the beginning of a golden age of beatboxing with it being such a young art form. People can still easily craft their own unique styles. New sounds are being discovered every day. It has become a competitive art form and sport with large/small championships and battles across the world.
What We Do
Colorado Beatbox Community (CBC) is one of the first grassroots beatbox communities in the nation and the only one within Colorado. Our Members enjoy getting together to jam, share techniques, and learn new sounds. We even travel together outside of the state to attend competitions. Our mission is to motivate, inspire and spread enthusiasm for beatboxing.
